Music Video Absurd

A school project where we had to create an abstract music video. Our group built a story about conflict, escape, and reconciliation, visualized through surreal edits and design deliverables.

Music Video

Abstract

About the project

The video shows a boy who gets irritated with his girlfriend.®

Process

We prepared the project step by step: mindmap, moodboard, storyboard, planning, filming, and editing. Next to the video we also created a poster, house style, and style-card to support the release.

The first version used Loving Life by Rationale as soundtrack, emotional and fitting for the school assignment.

Afterwards, I decided to create a second version for my own Drum & Bass YouTube channel. Using Hold On by Netsky & Becky Hill, I re-edited the footage with faster pacing and more energetic cuts. Same story, but a very different vibe.

Two edits, two emotions

One video, two different experiences.

  • The Loving Life version is emotional and reflective, focusing on the apology at the end.

  • The Drum & Bass version is faster, chaotic, and more intense, reflecting the paranoia and energy of the trip.

Challenges & Solutions

How to keep an abstract concept from becoming confusing?

We solved this by alternating surreal imagery with clear anchors: the girlfriend at the start, the walk, and the flower at the end. This gave the viewer a thread to follow while still experiencing the chaos of abstraction.

Result & Reflection

From assignment to passion project.

The school version fulfilled the assignment, but the Drum & Bass re-edit allowed me to push the project further. It became both an abstract narrative and an experiment in how music transforms editing. In the end, Absurd shows how one story can live in two completely different emotional worlds.
