LEGO Stopmotion

A stop-motion project where LEGO, storytelling, and handmade backgrounds come together.

Stopmotion

Animation

Assignment

For Bulkboek.nl, I was given the task to film or animate a story of my choice. I went with a creative stop-motion using LEGO, telling the story of a king walking incognito through a wheat field.®

From storyboard to LEGO set

Using a storyboard, carefully selected LEGO sets, and a hand-drawn background made by a friend, I built the scene. Every movement was captured frame-by-frame with a stop-motion app featuring onion-skin mode. The editing was done in After Effects and Sony Vegas.

Challenges

Stop-motion is time-consuming and prone to mistakes

one wrong move and you’ll have to redo an entire scene. Balancing lighting and camera angles was also a constant challenge.

Result & Reflection

Although the project wasn’t ultimately used by Bulkboek.nl

I learned a lot about planning, patience, and visual storytelling. It remains a project I look back on with joy.

Looking back

This project gave me skills I still use today: storytelling, frame-by-frame thinking, polishing details

But most of all: the joy of making something with your hands and bringing it to life on screen.
