ARCANE Intro

A creative school assignment where I gave my favorite series Arcane a brand-new intro. The Jinx Monkey walks through a 3D/2D world full of series artwork, with fluid camera moves and a playful style mash-up.

The project

For this assignment, I could pick any TV series and create my own intro for it. The Jinx Monkey is the main character, moving through scenes of iconic visuals from the show.®

Strategy & Concept

My goal was to retain the Arcane atmosphere, but give it my own twist. That’s why I combined 3D modeling in Blender with 2D elements from the original artwork, making the monkey feel like it truly belonged in the world. The music clip “ARCANE – She’s Back” provided the right energy and timing for the animation.

Tools & Software:

  • Blender (3D‑modelling and animation)

  • After Effects (compositing and effects)

  • Illustrator (logo)

  • Photoshop (image editing)

Challenges & Outcome

The biggest challenge was seamlessly blending 2D and 3D. By playing with depth, lighting, and shadows, the whole feels natural and smooth.

Nailing the music timing was precision work — every shot had to match the beat and energy of the soundtrack.

My own thoughts

“A school assignment where I could fully express my creativity.”

“It was so much fun to create something in the style of one of my favorite series. Especially animating the Jinx Monkey and combining 2D and 3D elements made the project truly unique. If I were to do it again, I’d add an extra sound effect when the two pans collide and make the explosion even more intense. But overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out.” — Raymond van Es
